The caliber of a design organization's output is a significant criterion for assessing its performance. But what exactly is good design? High quality design is typically defined through subjective measurements based on human liking and taste, in contrast to "high quality" engineering, which may be quantified through performance metrics like uptime, test coverage, and reaction times.
Quantitative performance indicators for design solutions, such as conversion rates or job completions, are possible, but they are insufficient to determine the quality of a solution before it is chosen for implementation.
